Someone's Stealing Something!!!!

That's Winona Ryder and one of her infamous scandals. Aside from the gorgeous actress that she is, she's also a well-known kleptomaniac, shoplifting her way to different stores.

It's different from stealing because she doesn't have to do it at all! It's a mental disorder, being unable to resist the URGE to steal even the most inanimate of things.

Why am I writing about this? An officemate of mine is actually one! Well, we at the office still don't have concrete proofs that she is indeed one but all clues would point back to her!

We hate to confront her about this! We feel bad for her! No, she is not in dire need of money and she doesn't have to work at all since she's got her ample supply of money already!

What we will be doing in the office is that we will run the surveillance camera (which we hate to operate) towards her.

I'm getting scared though, for her.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the day!

My Kurt Cobain Theories...

I'm just of those believers that Kurt Cobain (for those who does not know, he is the late front man of Nirvana) did not commit suicide. The evidences just point to the fact that no such act was committed. I'm one of those people who would wish the the case be opened again.

To view the details of the murder theory, here is the link.

I also have a video here listing all the pointers leading to a murder theory.

I hope you learned a thing here.

Have a great day.

The Australian Open Fortnight

The Australian Open of tennis ended yesterday with a bang. The tennis world is brought to a stop for two weeks as everyone would be watching all the drama that would unfold (i'm talking about men's and women's singles).

I did have my bets as to who will emerge winners at the end of the Open. I had Justine Henin and Roger Federer as my bets. However, none of the have won the title!

Instead, Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic emerged as winners in this year's edition. Maria Sharapova would not be so much of a surprise since she has won Wimbledon and the US Open before. But for Novak Djokovic, I was just both surprised and happy! I even mentioned on an earlier blog post that he would be a legitimate threat on this year's Australian Open. And he certainly is! He defeated Federer in straight sets in the semis!

As for the others, I was impressed with how Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Daniela Hantuchova fared. Tsonga, obviously, is the surprise of this year's competition. The Muhammad Ali look-alike certainly has built an electrifying name for himself.

And Hantuchova, congartulations for making it to the semis! I have been secretly rooting for you since 2005 when I began to miss your name in the upper ranks of the women's rankings!

And as for the beaten female finalist Anna Ivanovic, you're starting to impress me. Although I still feel that Anna is not yet that powerful compared to her compatriot Jelena Jankovic.

That's it!

Enjoy!

President Gordon B. Hinckley

The man I consider the closest man alive to heaven has just died because of age-related complications. He's 97 years old, yet he still goes on in serving the Lord with all his heart, might, mind and strength.

He is the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is the man who we lovingly call prophet.

But life and the Church still continues to live. In a few months, a new president of the Church will be announced.

I just so love President Hinckley. He will sorely be missed.

I Am A Powdered Devil's Food Donut

If I were a donut, I would be this.

You Are a Powdered Devil's Food Donut

A total sweetheart on the outside, you love to fool people with your innocent image.

On the inside you're a little darker, richer, and more complex.

You're a hedonist who demands more than one pleasure at a time.

Decadent and daring, you test the limits of human indulgence.

Where is Heaven?!

That certainly is the question all of us have. Could it be in the celestial heights? Right where the universe meets its end? Or is it just a state of mind wherein you free yourself of all care and weary?

Man does have all of the sources that he needed to find the answer. We have the holy writ (of all names and sizes) to help us out find the answer. Man also was blessed with the intellect to help him decipher his questions. That is why Google is such a blessing to humankind.

Then Google created Google Earth.

I searched for the answers to my questions and here's what he told me (with a bunch of other answers:

God is in Hungary.

Jesus is in Paraguay.

Hell is in Norway.

Beware of Texas because Satan is there.

However, I could not find Heaven. I've been praying all my life to find it.

Where is your heaven?

Vote for your funniest video!

This will be my post for the day. I've been too busy watching some hideous 1980's movie clips. I wanna go "Asian" today ( I really am. =P), and I have some three hilarious video clips here courtesy of, none other than, YouTube. Enjoy all the videos!

number one is an aerobics video from Japan. you might have seen this video before.

number two is an indian superman and spiderwoman. i never thought that they can dance and sing as well.

number three is from the Philippines. kinda like a filipino version of "high school musical" with a mythical horse as one of its characters.

I hope you liked all three videos.

I'm also offering my symphaties to the loved ones of Heath Ledger.

The Evolution of a Michael Jackson

If there is one thing that technological advancement and human vanity have done wrong, without a doubt, it has got to be Michael Jackson's face. Jacko, as everyone would describe his wacko-ness, has gone through countless number of plastic (even cemented and metallic?! lols!)surgeries to further enhance his aesthetic stance.

Quoting Mr. Jackson, "I've never had my cheekbones done, never had my eyes done, never had my lips done and all this stuff, they just go too far." Adding on that (shocking) statement, he insisted that he has done very little alterations on his body. "Very, very little. I mean you can count on my two fingers," says the King of Pop.

How could a small kid...
young jacko

change to something like this with just a little alteration?
jacko scary

Without further adieu, I present to you Mister Jackson and his evolution. Enjoy.

Enjoy the day folks!

Our Regional Accents

While still in Cebu, I had this former missionary companion (an American) who went the extra mile learning Bisaya (a Filipino dialect). He spoke it with me everyday: inside the house, while studying the Holy Scriptures, inside the jeepney, while walking through the rice fields, on the slums, on the seashore, everywhere. We had this "Bisaya-Only policy."

The locals, however, were quite unforgiving with the way he spoke the dialect. Instead of being appreciative, they were all too critical with the way he spoke their dialect. All of them would say that he got the accent wrong.

What's up with those darn locals?! My friend spent all of his life on the Rocky Mountains and spoke English all his life. Would they expect him to learn and adapt their dialect fast?

I told my friend that the English language is so widespread that many different sorts of accents have developed. Whereas for Bisaya, you don't hear a Korean or a Nicaraguan accent for that. That's the reason why they felt his "Rocky Mountain accent" was wrong.

Anyways, that's my sort-of-an introduction to my feature today: Our Regional Accents in the English language. I hope no one would get offended by this! I give my apologies right away!

Malaysian Accent

Thai Accent

Filipino Accent

Cantonese Accent

Indian Accent

Hope you enjoyed this! My apologies to those who felt offended.

The Tennis Genius named Roger Federer

This is the reason why I so idolize Roger Federer. He's so good, he's got Tiger Woods, a golfing legend, to compete with.

He's so even better than Pete Sampras.

My First Rant for the Year

I am a friendly person. It is an arduous task for me to speak with strangers. Of course, I would hesitate if the stranger looks like a theft or criminal. But nonetheless, I easily befriend other people.

That is why I frequent Yahoo chat rooms to meet new people. I especially visit regional chat rooms because the probability of meeting fellow Asians would be higher compared to visiting a French-speaking chat room (with exception to Indians, Pakistanis, and Filipinas though because they seem to thrive on EVERY CHAT ROOM).

What annoys me is that almost everyone is looking for some sleazy chat. For example,
Mr. gg_withcam93 wrote an IM saying, " any female wanna see me naked ?" Or this one,
"chat with me, i am a sexy cute girl.....", coming from stephaniephilia.

There are other avenues for that kind of chatting. Yahoo has in fact, made a couple of rooms intended for that. Try Romance categories and there you will see several other categories to your liking (Adult? Gay Male? Role Playing? By Location?).

Instant Messaging or chatting is a great avenue to meet new people and also with updating on old friends.

Remember, if you got some itch there that needs to be scratched (more like pleasured), Yahoo Messenger has got ROMANCE CHAT ROOMS for you.

There goes my rant. What do you have to say?

Its Rush Hour!!!!!

Coping with monstrous traffic jams would always be on the top list of everyone's horrendous city life nightmares. Who would want to get stuck on a 4-hour traffic?!?!

As much as possible, I would always lessen stress to its minimum. I know the reason why Okinawans in Japan live the longest is because stress there is almost nonexistent. Vancouver is also very good place to live in because life there is less stressful.

Unlike Manila and other cities around the world, traffic jams are a way of life to us. That's why we in Manila have to leave for our destination at least 90 minutes ahead of time to avoid delay.

I got here pictures of similarly horrendous girdlock situations.

Enjoy and marvel at the images!

The Other Side of being a Tennis Star

I think it's pretty much obvious that I love tennis. Everyday, I update myself with everything about tennis. From January till November, I should have my live coverage of tennis matches. If not, I'd watch it online instead! Hah!

Tennis is also very lucrative! The top players always get more than a US$1M in a single year. In fact Roger Federer, the top-ranked male, won US$10M last year!

However, not all tennis players are contented with the amount of money they receive a year. Some get product endorsements that spell millions of dollars. Others have turned to modeling for a back-up if in case injuries plagued their careers (like Anna Kournikova).

Here are some of the tennis players-slash-models:

Daniela Hantuchova

Marat Safin

Ana Ivanovic

James Blake

People Who Rocked My 2007

I wanna make a listing of all the people who rocked my 2007. This listing does not limit to people who made a positive feedback from me. Some of these people annoyed me, others made my year even happier.

In no random order, here's how my list went:

STEVE JOBS. His iPod Touch is definitely the mp3 find of 2007. Although the iPhone has not created THAT MUCH BIG of an IMPRESSION, I'm still looking forward to it this year. Mister Jobs, Chinese counterfeit experts have made their own versions of the iPhone already! Better hurry up!

BARACK OBAMA. I think I'd cry myself if and when he will get to win the Presidency. He is capturing everyone's hearts right now. Believing in one's own capacity to succeed would always be the perfect formula to success.

SANJAYA MALAKAR. He made me wish American Idol would be gone! Although the kid has got a charming smile, he totally is not a singer! He could act, maybe. But dancing and singing is not him.

ROSIE O'DONNELL. She is fighting with everyone!!!!!! What's wrong with her? Would that be because she's such an insecure person inside? I hope she would learn her lesson before she would turn into a miserable has-been.

BRITNEY SPEARS. Nothing good happened to her this year. I pity her so much. I wish her life would not end this way. I don't put all the blame on her, the paparazzi has to be put to blame as well. But everything would still be her decision, right?

LINDSAY LOHAN. Another Hollywood Crack Head. She needs to change herself fast before she would turn miserable and bankrupt in no time! She's still very young to be like this. A new Drew Barrymore? Nah, she wasn't a child legend during her day.

ROGER FEDERER and JUSTINE HENIN. I'm gonna make a singular note on them since the two have become so invincible on 2007. I liked both players since 2001, when both started to make waves. So I was only very happy whenever the two win majors. Observe how both play, they're simply amazing.

MANNY PACQUIAO. A failed Congressional bid, a flop movie, and a monstrous ego. What can I say more?

ANTONIO TRILLANES IV. The Senator who made the Senate look funnier. Mr. Trillanes, the next time you try to stage a coup, make sure you've got the numbers! But hey, he could be third time lucky! What do you think?

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Have a great day!!

The Two Koreas Are Still At War

Technically, the war never ended in the Korean Peninsula. A ceasefire has been signed on July 27, 1953 and since then, the war has been put to an indefinite pause. Efforts have been made last year to formally put a peace treaty between the two countries but still, they're technically at war.

If you haven't noticed, the war is not anymore centered on the Korean peninsula and is now taking the world stage. Want some proof?

Here's what North Korea's doing with its nuclear bombs program.

And here's South Korea's attempt for world automotive domination.

With North Korea's extensive (and scary?!) militarization and the South's rapid industrialization, the two Koreas are at a war (more like a competition). This time though, for world prominence.

Enjoy the day!

The World's Most Remote Inhabited Island Group

That is the world's remotest inhabited island. Tristan da Cunha island group of the United Kindgom. It is situated between Argentina and South Africa on the South Atlantic Ocean.

Just how remote this place is? It's got one doctor (from South Africa) and five nurses taking care of its 275-strong population.

Since the island is so isolated (1750 miles from Cape of Good Hope in South Africa), there are only 8 surnames recorded in the island and everyone is a related to one another. There are instances of health problems because of endogamy, including asthma and glaucoma, largely because of the inevitable marriages among distantly related couples, for example marriages between second degree cousins, that comes with having such a small gene pool.

Television was introduced in the islands on 2001 and there is no airport in the island, thus, making traveling by boat the only available option.

Sounds so fun, huh?!

My Quest for this year...

Remember Babe and his quest for animal kingdom-wide dominion?! He went to the big city (which was actually a mixture of all majot cities in the world) to join some (snorty?!) competition.

Just like Babe and his quest some 8-9 years ago, I wanna join some major event in the Philippine Blogosphere. Its the 2nd Philippine Blog Awards.

I have no plans to be nominated or (horror of all horrors) WIN something in the event. Although if something like that would happen, it would be so appreciated. Although that possibility seems like making you drive at 5pm from Ayala Alabang all the way towards Lagro in Novaliches in an hour's time. Kind of difficult, huh?!

Although i do plan to volunteer some help for the event and if logistics will tell me that volunteering would be impossible, gracing the event would be okay to me. It would be cool to meet fellow bloggers, don't you think?

I hope it would not be an Invitation-only event and if the event would be like that, I WISH TO BE INVITED!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

New Year's Resolutions of Famous People

Everyone's making his and her own New Year's Resolutions. That's why many fitness gyms suddenly become jam-packed after every New Year. Many people also sense a (false?!) hope for a new beginning to their endeavors and to their lives as well.
Psychics are also in-demand as their "prophecies" for the coming year have been well sought-upon by people (not me though).

And on newspapers, we read about different people being interviewed regarding their own New Year's Resolutions. For this reason, I made a quick research of the New Year's Resolutions of famous people. Take note, not all New Year's Resolutions are REAL!

GEORGE W. BUSH
"I resolve that I will install a television set in the Oval Office and turn it on and watch in the event of a natural disaster."

BRITNEY SPEARS
"Stop biting my nails. Just to take care of me more."

PERVEZ MUSHARRAF
"Find Osama."

PARIS HILTON
"Last year I was in the tabloid headlines only 362 days... THIS year I resolve to make it the complete 365 days!"

By the way, only 46% of those who made New Year's Resolutions were able to keep their promises ON THE SIXTH MONTH says John C. Norcross, a professor of psychology at the University of Scranton who has conducted at least three studies on resolutions in recent years.

Happy New Year again!

Proud Pinoy Moment #4: Philippine Basketball Team (1910's-1960's)

Thanks to the American "control" in the early 20th Century, the Philippines was one of the stalwarts of World Basketball. In Asia, the Philippines won 9 out of the 10 Basketball competitions of the Far-Eastern Games, the athletic meet that pitted the Philippines with China, Empire of Japan, and Korea. During the inaugural basketball competitions at the Olympics held at Berlin in 1936, the Philippines placed 5th despite a 4-1 win-loss card. That 5th place finish is still the highest ever by any Asian country.

In the 1950's, the Philippines continued to dominate Asian basketball as the country won the basketball gold 4 out of 5 times up until the 1960's. With Carlos Loyzaga at the head of the team, the Philippine team was invicible in Asia.

In the 1954 World Championships held in Brazil, the Philippine team won the bronze and is still the ONLY Asian country to have placed that high on a world-level basketball competition.

Although a drastic decline started with the birth of the Philippine Basketball Association or PBA in the 1970's, efforts have been made in recent years to bring the Philippines back into regional and worldwide contention.

Nonetheless, the Philippine Basketball Team will always be a source of pride and inspiration for the Filipino people. For us. no gold is sweeter than a basketball gold.

Mabuhay ka, Philippine Basketball Team!

Pinoy Proud Moment# 3: Filipino Gold in the 1988 Seoul Olympics

[No image for Cerdeña, my apologies]

It was a Filipino triumph just the same. Despite being excluded from the regular gold medal tally, Arianne Cerdena's Olympic gold medal, which she won at Royal Bowling Center in Seoul, South Korea on September 18, 1988 only proves that the Philippines could easily beat other countries for that elusive Olympic gold. For the record, bowling was considered only as a demonstration sport in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

A gold is still a gold.

Mabuhay ka, Arianne Cerdeña!

Proud Pinoy Moment #2: Victoria Manalo's 2 Olympic Golds

An English-Filipina named Victoria Manalo Draves became the first-ever woman to win on both the springboard and platform events on diving at the 1948 Olympics in London.

If not for her marrying American coach named Lyle Draves on 1946, she could have competed for the country instead.

Competing for the US was actually quite bizaare for her since she had experienced discrimination and was not allowed to swim on several swimming clubs because of her Filipino lineage.

1948 could have been a shining year for Philippine sports.

Mabuhay ka, Victoria Manalo Draves!

Proud Pinoy Moment #1: The Philippines Won The Right To Host 2002 World Expo

[Too bad I got no image for it, dang it!]

The Philippines has actually won the rights to host the 2002 World Expo to be held on Quezon City way back in 1998.

According to this article,

That was how delegates to the Bureau International des Expositions general assembly here described the stunning win of the Philippines over Australia for the right to host World Expo 2002.

The victory came on the second balloting after the first ended in a draw.

In the second vote, the Philippines got 43 votes against Australia's 35.

In any case, after the final vote was announced, an emotional Gabor exulted: ''We made history!''

It was sweet victory for Gabor, who, for the last five years, had been batting for a ''recognized exposition'' that is smaller, affordable and within the resources of developing nations.

From Manila, President Ramos sent a message saying: ''I hail and commend our team under Secretary Gabor for this victory and grand opportunity for the Philippines.''

It was a sweet moment though. Kind of like almost hosting the Olympic games.

Did the plan ever pushed through? Nah, funds went scarce. I guess the new President back then (Estrada, who else?) didn't really think this could have been wonderful for the country.

Nevertheless, it still is a proud moment for me.

Mabuhay!
