Kobe Bryant And The Lakers Beat Boston Anew

Photo grabbed from Getty Images/ Yahoo Sports
This is probably the most crucial win for the Lakers this 2010-2011 Regular Season. After becoming (fairly) embattled, largely because of its lackluster performances to its biggest rivals and occassional upsets to unheralded teams, the team got out of a probable loss to its fiercest rival, beating the Boston Celtics 92-86 on Boston Garden, no less.

When it counts the most, you can always depend on the Lakers. For the Laker fan, we're confident enough we can beat the Spurs to become Western Conference champions for the 4th straight year. A world championship in June is not a remote possibilty of course, but with the teams string of losses, one might not be entirely confident of his beloved Laker team.

This is a big regular season victory for the Lakers. Winning its 3rd straight match on its 3rd game on a 7-game road trip, this is huge. This should give the Lakers enough confidence to come up with something more special when they get to face Miami again sometime soon. We almost beat the Spurs last week, I think we're getting our groove back.

And oh, I would love to remind everyone that Kobe got 5 championship rings. 2 consecutive MVP awards are a bunch of bullcrap compared to a hand filled with NBA championship rings.

Azkals Won, Whole Country Rejoiced

Ladies and Gentlemen, Football in the Philippines has officially come back.

Long swallowed in whole by its fast-paced cousin Basketball, Football has suddenly become the toast of the country, even creating a mania reminiscent to those experienced only by rockstars and here in the Philippines, by F4(Korea and Taiwan versions) and Super Junior (ewww!).

Few hours ago, the Azkals (Philippines Men's Football Team) defeated Mongolia 2-0 (it's nil NOT zero or none or love) on the first leg of its play-off match, which will be followed up on Ulaan Batar in Mongolia come March 15 (?).

The game was historical because it marked the first time the whole country actually supported the entire match with full-on media coverage, thanks largely to ABS-CBN. Chieffy Caligdong and Phil Younghusband both gave the Azkals its 2 goals with shots fired towards the end of the first and second halves respectively.

It was fun seeing everyone watching the game, with me surprised that my mom actually watched the tie instead of the usual telenovelas. It was a very meaningful win. Why? Because 1.) the Azkals won, 2.) Philippine Football won, and 3.) Football as a sport won.

Let's support the Azkals some more and learn how to shout in front of our TVs!

*Here are the YouTube videos of the 2 goals. Enjoy!

Let's Watch The Azkals Tonight!

Last year's fairytale is over. No more rags-to-riches tales, no more surprises. We already established the fact that the Philippine Men's National Football Team is no longer the region's butthead and everybody knows that.

This will be a different challenge for the Azkals tonight as we begin 2011  on a footing alien to all of us. The Philippines is actually expected to win a football match. The tie against Mongolia will be the very first time that the Philippines will host an international football match and people actually lined up to see the match. Tickets gone sold out even before they got printed. Girls were screaming and everybody was supportive of the football team.

What's ironic was that just when PBA is not as popular as it once was decades ago, Azkals is suddenly on the rise. Let's all watch the tie tonight on Studio 23 starting at 6:30pm! Go Azkals!

Angelo Reyes Committed Suicide?

I may not have the best judgement but here's what I can say about how much I understand stuff.

Secretary Angelo Reyes, former Defense Secretary and former AFP Chief has reportedly committed suicide and has expired on Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.

He is currently on hot-seat regarding the corruption scandal involving the top honchos of the AFP. If it is true that he committed suicide, then my understanding tells me he is indeed guilty.

Oh Philippines. Another scandal to tarnish thy already beat-and-battered self.

Green Bay Packers Win Super Bowl XLV!

Hurray to the Super Bowl XLV Champs! Green Bay Packers!

They just defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 to their fourth Super Bowl win and first since 1996. Aaron Rodgers was the monster of the night, scoring 3 Touchdowns. Amazing!

The night will also be remembered for Christina Aguilera's atrocious take on the Star Spangled Banner and the Black Eyed Peas amazing halftime show.

See you again next year!

It's Super Bowl XLV! Can't Wait!

Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers? The President has seen something different to what the Super Bowl XLV cast suggests a few weeks back.

President Barack Obama made this bold pronouncement regarding his participation on this year's Super Bowl. The president said "If the Bears win, I’m going no doubt."referring to his home team of Chicago Bears prior to its playoff duel with the Green Bay Packers last January 19. Four days later, the Chicago Bears lost, thus ending any hope of making an appearance at the Super Bowl XLV.

The Packers meanwhile had something really clever to rebutt. Cornerback Charles Woodson poked fun and said "The President don't want to come watch us at the Super Bowl, guess what? We're going to see him" (The winning team visits the White House after the win).

If online bets and odds would prove to be accurate, then I guess Charles Woodson is right for declaring that the Green Bay Packers would win this year. Who do you think would win? Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers?

Manny Pacquiao On MTV Cribs

I was just doing YouTube a few minutes ago when I chanced upon this new MTV Cribs episode featuring Manny Pacquiao. I didn't know MTV Cribs was still alive. I used to watch this show as a teenager over and over again and I loved it whenever they feature homes of rappers and ballers. For sure, the homes of these guys were massive and ostentatious.

It's fun that they have featured Manny Pacquiao on that show. For a guy who earns $40 Million a year, his house seemed a little too low-profile. Of course, us Filipinos would know that his house in GenSan and probably his Laguna and Davao City homes would be a lot more grandiose than the one shown over in LA.

Wanna see how the LA home looked like? Check the video out!

UFC 126: Silva or Belfort?

I haven't really made up my mind yet whether to go for Anderson Silva or Vitor Belfort on UFC 126. All of us know how legendary Anderson Silva is and for sure, he'll go down as one of the most successful mixed martial artists there is in UFC. However, I can always root for the underdog.

It is quite obvious that Silva lords supreme over Belfort on almost every aspect. However, there are things that are on Belfort's favor. He is explosive. He is not even afraid of the longest-reigning champion either. For sure, Belfort will come with hands flying over Silva and he will connect.

This will be one interesting fight and I think it is quite obvious who my pick is. I'm rooting for Belfort.
